India’s AI Revolution: From Healthcare to Highways

India’s artificial intelligence (AI) landscape is accelerating rapidly in 2025 — from villages to metropolises, innovation powered by smart tech is transforming lives.

·       National push & ethics-led frameworks

Led by PM Modi’s government, a ₹1.2 billion “AI for All” initiative channels funds and GPU power to build indigenous models optimized for India’s diversity.  Complementing this, the newly formed IndiaAI Safety Institute focuses on ethical, culturally-sensitive AI development.

·       Homegrown language models & agentic AI

Bengaluru-based Sarvam AI recently released Sarvam 2B—an open-source, Indic-language LLM trained on 4 trillion tokens—signaling India’s push towards self‑reliant AI infrastructure.  Meanwhile, Mumbai startup Krutrim debuted “Kruti” in June 2025: a multilingual, agentic AI assistant capable of tasks like ordering food, booking taxis, and understanding 13 Indian languages

·       Intelligent public service & safety systems

AI is reshaping public systems: the Baroda Cricket Association deployed AI for player selections, clustering performance indicators to build smarter teams.  Indian Railways launched MVIS, a machine-vision inspection system to automate train maintenance.  On Delhi’s Dwarka Expressway, an AI-driven Advanced Traffic Management System identifies 14 types of violations in real-time.

·       Health, defence & fintech innovation

   Mumbai’s Qure.ai continues to expand its AI-driven medical imaging tools, used in tuberculosis and stroke diagnostics across India and beyond.  Edith Defence is pioneering AI-powered surveillance with autonomous UGVs for border security.  Neurofin, a fintech startup, secured $1.6 million to use generative AI for automating banking compliance and operations.
